Camps and Encryption: Military Training Camp in Congo

The Congolese military are going to set up a military training camp at Nyaleke, inside Virunga National Park. This is not a regular military training camp. It is called a “camp de brassage” and is one of many such camps set up for the training, redeployment and demobilization of the Congolese military. These camps are a crucial part of the peace process in Congo and they need to be as efficient as possible in their operations.
Secondary Requirements
A secure, stable communication solution that will ensure operations are working at optimal levels and restricted to only authorized personnel.

need

Lightweight, portable communication devices for field training agents

voice solution

Each agent will need a Thuraya SO-2510 satellite phone which will enable them to maintain constant communication on their location and status, during training

The agents will be able to draft reports and email them to headquarters and receive feedback whilst still on the field.

need

A stable, communication channel for agents when they are in motion, patrolling outside the camp or out-of-camp training

voice solution

By installing each vehicle with a (vehicle docker) Thuraya Mobile Docking Unit, it will allow the agents to continuously make and receive calls whilst in motion

need

The field agents will require continuous access to large quantities of data

data solution

The agents equipped with a Thuraya IP will be able to forward training progress reports to the headquarters as well as participate in regular, status meetings held at the headquarters through video conferencing.

need

An encryption solution that will ensure the information exchanged is restricted to authorized personnel

data solution

By setting up a Virtual Private Network, it will ensure all the information is efficiently and accurately delivered to the intended individuals to avoid any enemy interception.

need

A wide area network that will link the camp’s temporary office and agents that will facilitate constant communication of data and voice on a reliable and secure link.

voice & data solution

By installing a VSAT, the camp’s office will communicate to the agents out in training efficiently whilst saving on costs.

There will be effective site reporting to the headquarters especially on supplies enabling timely deliveries.

need

A means of tracking each project vehicle for security purposes due to the area’s volatile environment.

tracking solution

The already installed Thuraya Mobile Docking Unit in the vehicles will also act as a tracking device, allowing the headquarters to monitor the vehicles movements and forewarn agents veering into conflict zones or of any impeding danger.

United States Department of Defense

Satellite communication has been a vital part of the United States military. The U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) used satellite communication systems to address the special requirements of military operations. The goal of these systems has been to provide communications between, and to supply information to, military units in situations where terrestrial means of communication are impossible, unreliable, or unavailable. This goal was partly realized with the earliest DOD communication satellites, and as satellite and communications technology has improved, the goal has been realized to a much greater extent.
