Indigo VSAT launch

Indigo Telecom is set to hold VSAT launch on 16th September 2011 at Nairobi Tented camp starting at 8:30am. The launch is aimed at re-stamping Indigo's presence as a reliable VSAT services provider across the continent, and a friendly partner whose services and products sees you that extra mile.

What is VSAT?
VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) is a small terminal that enables two way communication via satellite facilitating internet access, data transfer, video, voice and fax communications anywhere in the world; especially in the remote areas of the globe. It compfortably supplies both private and public sectors with an efficient, cost effective and reliable communication platform that is highly dynamic and user-friendly.

Why VSAT?

Satellite technology is constantly advancing and still stands as the only equipment to offer a wide-area broadband network that is accessible everywhere, even in the most remote areas in the world.

Indigo and Inmarsat Media Broadcast Event

On the 14th October 2010, Indigo Telecom will be holding a Media Broadcast Event in partnership with Inmarsat to showcase the latest technology in remote satellite broadcasting services across East Africa.  This event will look to showcase mobile satellite based solutions that would enable a journalist to send a media file from any remote site in the world to the corporate HQ for onward transmission as either Live or Store and Forward options. The event will also aim at introducing the new ways to reduce costs on storage for media files through cloud computing.

Indigo's Broadband Global Area Network service – BGAN – is transforming satellite news gathering with a compelling combination: small, high bandwidth satellite terminals delivering voice and broadband data, that can be rapidly deployed and easily used by non-technicalstaff all over the world.
All types of satellite news gathering can benefit from BGAN. News teams can file their reports from disaster-hit areas, war zones, sports events and remote regions without having to rely on potentially poor or non-existent terrestrial or cellular communications infrastructure. And if they need to move between locations, they can use vehicular BGAN to send emails, live and stored video footage, and high resolution photographs, as well as to make calls while on the move.

Live broadcasting
BGAN is all your news team needs to capture stories in real time and broadcast them directly back to the studio. BGAN X-Stream delivers the fastest, on demand streaming data rates in the mobile satellite communications world – from a minimum of 384kbps up to around  450kbps. So using a single, highly compact, lightweight BGAN terminal you can broadcast very high quality live video wherever you may be.

Store and forward video
Alternatively, news teams can shoot, store and then forward video footage back to the newsroom, and it can be incorporated into a subsequent live broadcast. Or you can send and start playing a store and forward file at the same time as making a live video broadcast.
Print / photo journalism
With BGAN, journalists can file reports efficiently, directly from the field, rather than having to wait until they get back to town. Due to the high bandwidth available with BGAN, they can deliver more comprehensive stories with richer content, such as high resolution photographs.

Remote bureau
Your remote team can set up a temporary office with voice and broadband data connectivity and access the same applications they use back in the newsroom. Some BGAN terminals enable an instant wireless LAN so several journalists can share
a single BGAN connection.
